The film explores the lingering legacy of Albania’s 50-year Stalinist and isolationist communist regime led by dictator Enver Hoxha more than thirty years after its collapse.
Guided by internationally acclaimed Albanian cellist Redi Hasa (who moved to Puglia, Italy, in 1997), the documentary journeys between Albania and Italy. Through interviews with a diverse array of voices including musicians, actors, directors, and citizens from all walks of life it examines how the fear, collective trauma, and habits of a totalitarian system continue to shape the present. The title reflects a society conditioned to whisper and hide its truths, capturing the fragile boundary between historical memory, shame, and the desire to step into an open future.
Pinch Media’s director Mirko Pincelli and cinematographer Daniel Salter worked on this production for Rome based production company AKI Film founded by acclaimed editor Esmeralda Calabria.
