For more than twenty years, Ramiz Nukić walked the forests around Srebrenica looking for the missing. He was a survivor of the 1995 genocide, and his father and brothers were among its victims. He searched almost every day, alone, long after most of the world had stopped looking.

Ramiz died in November 2022. This film begins there. Built around footage filmed while he was still alive, it follows what one man’s persistence set in motion: the families who finally had a grave to visit, the people who took up the work after him, and a town that still lives with what he refused to leave unfound. Through their stories and the traces he left in the landscape and in other people’s lives, the film asks what it means to keep a promise to the dead, and who inherits it.
